After a long respite, I finally feel as if I have things worthy of writing, important thoughts to express, once again.
A lot has happened since I last wrote, and perhaps I should summarize it for you.
I taught at Lappeenrannan lyseon lukio for three years, during which time I mainly taught IB courses. My students were smart, thoughtful people, and I'll always be thankful for the time I got to spend with them. I've kept in touch with some, and consider them friends.
But I wasn't happy.
A confluence of circumstances had me desperately depressed. So, I decided to do what I'd always wanted to do in the first place: get more university degrees. I decided that my place was in applied linguistics, and so here I am, studying that very thing at the University of Jyväskylä.
The decision to move to Jyväskylä caused my world to open like a flower bud suddenly struck by the sun. I began to make friends - real, true, lifelong friends - a thing I assumed would likely never happen to me again. I realized with utter joy that applied linguistics was the most interesting thing in the world. Most recently, I've even been singing in a band with a dear friend who shares a lot of my musical tastes. Life is beautiful.
And now that life is beautiful again, I finally feel as if I've regained the right to write. Not only that, but I find myself with many, many things to say, some of which I hope will be of interest to you.
